Marliss Ellen Bloom Obituary

Marliss Ellen Bloom (nee Berg) Marliss was born in Stetsonville, WI, the youngest daughter to Thomas and Lillian Berg. Her older sister Mavis, brother Harold and sister Ellen preceded her in death. Marliss married her lifelong love Robert Bloom on December 27, 1945. Together they gave birth to 8 children and opened their home to her niece Charlene who is and always will be her loving daughter. In order by age Charlene Lewis (the late Joseph), Bruce Bloom (Carol), Pamela Eiben (George), Roberta Finch ("Pete"), Deborah Holloway ("Jack"), Brian Bloom (Mary Jo), Denise Mielotz (Michael), Bradley Bloom (Cari) and Barry Bloom (Kim). Marliss lived the majority of her life in and around the Milwaukee area raising her children. In 1958, Robert and Marliss began operating a Golden Chicken restaurant located on the east side. Within a year, they purchased the other two Golden Chicken locations and began owning, operating and franchising restaurants growing to more than 25 location located in 4 states. Today, 7 locations still operate giving their restaurant legacy a 60 year run and counting. Marliss was a devoted church member including over 50 years at Divinity Divine Charity Lutheran Church in Whitefish Bay, WI. She and Bob enjoyed spending time with their friends, often traveling with Jim and Bette Champion or spending time with many others including her entire "Alley" family in Whitefish Bay. But more than anything, Marliss was about family. She hosted Thanksgivings and Christmas at her house with crowds rivaling those at a school dining hall. She never missed a chance to welcome someone into her home, whether one of her childrens friends or the many in-laws with which she had such an amazing relationship. She was best friends with her sister Mavis until her passing in 1993 and loved her relationship with Bobs sisters Maryanne and Bernice. Marliss leaves behind 9 children, 25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, making it more of a family forest than a tree! All of us are grateful for the many years we had with her and the amazing strength, grace and kindness with which she carried herself. Please join us on Friday July 20, 2018, for a celebration of her life at Church and Chapel Funeral Home located at 1875 N. Calhoun Rd., Brookfield, WI 53005, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
