<p>BREWER - Kathleen “Kay” M. Whitten, 91, died peacefully surrounded by her family at her home following a brief illness on March 24th, 2024.</p><p><br></p><p>Born February 15th, 1933 in Augusta, Maine, she was raised in Corinth, Maine. She was the youngest daughter of the late Winslow and Lucy (Elliott) Wilson. She raised 4 children while working multiple jobs. Later in life she married Ellery Whitten and made a life in Clifton. They took many adventures in their pop-up camper. They both were avid craftsmen, and had a table at many craft fairs.</p><p><br></p><p>Kay’s love of knitting led her to a knitting group in Newport where she made many friends and was admired for all of the sweaters, hats and mittens she knitted for her great-grandbabies. </p><p><br></p><p>As a founding member, she poured her heart and soul into the Clifton Historical Society. She spent hundreds of hours researching town history and entering information into the computer so it could be easily accessible to everyone. </p><p><br></p><p>Kay found great joy as organist and pianist at the Clifton Baptist Church for decades. </p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Kay’s daughter-in-law, Nancy; granddaughter, Jessica, and great-granddaughter, Aly for the wonderful care that was given up until the time she was called home.</p><p><br></p><p>Kay is survived by a son, Jay Oakman and his wife, Nancy; grandchildren, Jessica Gray, Jill Oakman, and Jason Oakman and his wife, Jade; great-grandchildren, Choyce, Alyson, Kameron, Jackson, Eden and Clark. </p><p><br></p><p>A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S Main St, Brewer. Graveside services will be private in Maplewood Cemetery, Clifton, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, Kay has asked for donations to be made to Catholic Charities, Development Office, P.O. Box 10660, Portland, ME 04104-6060. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.</p>
