Maggie Kathleen Spence Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family share the passing of Maggie Kathleen Spence of TCN. Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, Friend, Partner. Maggie went peacefully on March 25, 2024 at the Womans Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Winnipeg. Maggie had diabetes for so many years, she suffered so much from her illness and she fought a good fight until the end.


Maggie was born in The Pas, Manitoba on May 23, 1960. Maggie went to Residential School in Dauphin and worked at Kelsey Hydro in her early years. She and her Mom were in Choir at her young age, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends and she was always there helping her sister raising her kids and her grandkids who were her world and brought her the greatest joy. She would always be there to cook for the funerals with her nieces.


Maggie leaves to mourn her partner: Moses Beardy, sons: Darwin Beardy, Morgan (Shanelle), Marcus, daughter: Kayla, Dena, grandkids: Gage, Avery, Kaysha, Monique, Gerald Randall, Matthew, Karter, Amelia sisters: Elizabeth Garson, Rubena (Geoffrey) Garson, brothers: Norman Spence, Simon (Lilly) Spence., grandkids: Garrad, Every, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandkids, cousins and friends.


Maggie was predeceased by her parents: James Matthew and Priscilla (nee Kirkness) Spence, brothers: Daniel, Elijah, Jethro, Nicanor, Gilbert-Levi, Norman-John, sisters: Maria Maclean, Marjorie, sisters in law: Lydia, Nancy, Dorothy, uncles: Stanley (Alice) Ouskun, Philip (Sarah) Ouskun, John James (Sarah) Ouskun, Darius (Helen) Ouskun, William Ouskun, nephews: Kristopher Garson, Eric, George, Philip, niece: Darlene Ouskun, grand nieces: Rayha, Khloe, grand nephew: Pheonix Tye Garson, cousins: Edward (Maggie) Kirkness, Gilbert (Mina) Kirkness, Alice (Stanley) Ouskun, Helen (Isaac) Keeper, Maria (Joseph) Mayham.


Viewing held on Saturday, March 30th at Boardman/Northland Funeral Home in Thompson, Manitoba from 11:00am—1:00pm


Wake Services held on Saturday, March 30th and Sunday, March 31st at the Split Lake Band Hall in Split Lake, Manitoba.


Funeral Service held on Monday, April 1st at the Split Lake Band Hall in Split Lake, Manitoba. Interment to follow at the Split Lake Cemetery.


The family would like to thank Bernel Spence for being a caregiver to Maggie, and the staff and nurses at the Palliative Care Unit at HSC, TCN Chief and Council, TCN Gaming Commission Board and Staff, TCN Women's Auxiliary and Choir and Boardman Funeral Home.
