BENETTON, Rita -

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Benetton on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the age of 82.

She was born Rita Pen on August 2, 1941, in Azzano Decimo, a small town in northern Italy, the youngest of 7 children. Rita was an outgoing, caring and passionate person with many skills such as cooking, baking, dancing, gardening, card playing, knitting, and sewing. Rita endured 4 hip replacement surgeries and, when asked what her goal was after each one, she replied “to dance!” (not unlike the dancers in the old Lawrence Welk TV program). Rita’s priority in life was her family and faith. She was an active parishioner of St. Benedict’s where she served as a eucharistic minister. She volunteered and enjoyed her communities at both the parish and the Veneto Centre. At home and within her community, she was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, nanna (to Gregory), aunt and close friend to many.

Rita was predeceased by her husband Giuseppe and will be missed by her friends, and especially by her family: her son Luigi (Josephine), her daughter Emma (Deni) and her grandchildren Luca (Madalen) and Matthew.

Resting at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue (North of Rexdale Boulevard), on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Benedict Church, 2194 Kipling Avenue, on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
