Reta "Nell" Howell

<p>Nell Howell, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at home with family by her bedside. Nell was born on Thursday, May 7, 1942, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia. She was the third child of the seven children of her parents, James Perry and Opa Reta Akins.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1959, Nell met her future husband at the South Gardens Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia. They dated and in October of 1960 became engaged to be married. Her husband-to-be received orders to report in November 1960 for twelve months at Thule Air Base, Greenland. On November 12, 1961, she married Hubert Wayne Howell, the son of John Luther Howell and Mary Etta Howell of Vidalia, Georgia at her parents’ home with the pastor from the South Gardens Church presiding.</p><p><br></p><p>She is preceded in death by her daughter, Amanda Eber; parents; sisters, Shelby (Bobby) Akins Dooley, and Linda (James) Akins Dooley. Nell is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wayne Howell of Griffin, GA; son, Richard (Kim) Howell of Fayetteville, GA; grandchildren, Niki Westbrooks of Fayetteville, GA, Joshua Gerald of Birmingham, AL, Zachary (Amber) Howell of Newnan, GA, Dannie (Nick) Sims of Fayetteville, GA, Cameron Gerald of Fayetteville, Ga; as well as nine great grandchildren; sisters, Patsy Murrell of Brandon, FL, Janis (Jimmy) McTier of Eatonton, GA; brothers, James (Vicki) Akins, and Dan (Susan) Akins of Rincon, GA.</p><p><br></p><p>Nell graduated from Jenkins High School in 1960 and retired as a State Elections Coordinator in the Secretary of State’s office.</p><p><br></p><p>Nell accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized many years ago at the South Gardens Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia. She was previously a member of the Ahava Baptist Church (formerly Bonanza Baptist church) in Jonesboro, Georgia and was an active member for many years of Fayetteville First Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia.</p><p><br></p><p>A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Fayetteville First Baptist Church in the Overton chapel with Rev. Jack Miller and Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Nell Howell, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at home with family by her bedside.
