Robert James Crowther Obituary

Robert James Crowther, 80, of Woonsocket, passed away unexpectedly at Landmark Medical Center on March 26, 2024. Born to Edward & Dorothy M. (Chandler) Crowther in the Valley Falls Village of Cumberland, RI, on November 17, 1943, he coincidently shared the same birth date with his beloved wife of 60 years, Linda (Dunford) Crowther. He leaves his son, Robert J. Crowther, Jr., of Woonsocket, and his daughter, Patricia, (spouse, Jeffrey), of Middletown, and their two children, Chelsea, of Arlington, VA, and Alexander of Riverside, NJ. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Crowther.

Robert graduated from Cumberland High School and the Vocational Technical School of Rhode Island. Always a hard worker and proud of his ‘old fashioned’ work ethic, he did some part-time work during school and later became a skillful Machinist, enjoying that trade while employed at the H.& H. Company in Lincoln for several years. For the past 20+ years he was an independent contractor, known best for his fine workmanship with R.J. Construction Company, an enterprise which he owned & operated. When not working, Robert, a true outdoorsman, loved deer hunting, fishing in all seasons, clamming, and quahogging ; he especially coveted his occasional hunting trips to Vermont accompanied by a long-time friend. While he and Linda enjoyed cooking and consuming the wild meats he hunted, they ‘drew the line’ at his trout catches, happily giving all of them away to friends and neighbors! He also liked to build things that made life easier, e.g., a cart to carry his venison/deer out of the woods and several practical items for the house. He was a talented artist who painted and did amazing etchings; he was an avid fan and follower of celebrity Bob Ross’ painting show on PBS, and liked Country Music, old movies (Rifleman, Andy Griffin, Texas Ranger, The Waltons, M.A.S.H.), and, of course, spending quality time with family.

Services for Robert are respectfully private. Arrangements are in the care of The Berarducci Home & Cremation Care Center, 185 Spring Street, Woonsocket. Memorial contributions to The Potter League, 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, 02842 [potterleague.org] would be appreciated.
