Little Orleans, MD – Violet I. Yonker, 89, of Little Orleans, MD, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

Born December 10, 1934, in Allegany County, MD, Mrs. Yonker was the daughter of the late Conda Ray Shipley, and Dorothy Marie (Elbin) Shipley. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: George Yonker; her brothers: Robert, and Willard “Jack” Shipley; son-in-law: John Sowers; sister-in-law: Wanda Shipley; and brother-in-law: Julian Shanholtz.

A homemaker, Violet graduated from Everett Southern Joint High School. She worked in transportation for the Allegany County Board of Education, and for London Fog Manufacturing. Violet was a member of the American Legion Post #155 Auxiliary in Artemas, PA, the Orleans Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, and the Piney Plains Methodist Church.

Violet is survived by her children: Janet Elbin and husband, Leon; Judy Sowers, Dotty Chase and husband, Joe; David Yonker and wife, Jennifer; Danny Yonker and wife, Lauri; and Brian Yonker and wife, Annette; her sister: Louise Shanholtz; her sisters-in-law: Polly Ward, Wilda Yonker, and Shirley Shipley; her grandchildren: Shannon Elbin and wife, Trisha; Aaron Elbin, Eric Sowers and wife, Shannon; Duane Chase and wife, Chelsea; JoAnn Rosena and husband, Joh;, John Chase and wife, Melissa; Michael Yonker and wife, Missy; Lisa Vance and husband, Brian; Keshia Fisher and fiancé, Justin; Brook Dulaney and husband, John; Emily Pyles and husband, Danny; Claire Berkheimer and husband, Tim; Samuel Yonker and wife, Karly; Chandra Yonker, Adam Yonker and wife, Morgann; and Chad Yonker and wife, Leah; and her great-grandchildren: Reagan, Callie, Carly, George, Justin, Matthew, Rachael, Brady, Nick, Sophia, Rylan, Aubrey, McKenna, Kyle, Haylee, Addisyn, Blakelyn, Abbagail, Carter, Liamm, Eli, Natalie, Ethan, Luke, Annsley, Benton, Audrey, Bryant, Ellie, Jaden, Brantley, and Cole.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, March 29, 2024, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 11:00 A.M.

Interment will be in Piney Plains Cemetery.

The Pallbearers will be Violet’s grandsons.
