Obituary
Costas “Charles” Demeris, 102, of Haverhill, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at his residence.
He was born in Haverhill on April 20, 1921, son of the late Peter and Vasilike (Chilivede) Demeris.
Charles was educated in the Haverhill School System and graduated from Haverhill High School with the Class of 1939. He would go on to proudly serve our country in the United States Army during World War II where we would fight in the Guadalcanal Campaign and receive the Medal of Freedom. Upon returning home from the war, he would work Quality Control for Western Electric until his retirement.
In his younger years, Charles was a boxer and an avid swimmer. He loved to flyfish and hunt and always did the daily crossword puzzles and loved to cook. He owned and operated his own barber shop as a side business, The Comb and Shears in downtown Haverhill.
Charles is predeceased by his loving wife of 69 years, Ariste Demeris who passed away in January of 2023 and his daughter Maria who passed away in September of 2023.
He is survived by his children Peter C. Demeris and his wife Wendy of Chester, NH, George C. Demeris, and Elena Demeris both of Haverhill. He was the loving grandfather to Arianna and Angelina Demeris.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Monday, April 1st from 10-11 AM in the Holy Apostles Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 156 Winter St., Haverhill, with a funeral service to follow at the church. Interment will be in the Linwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill ~ Bradford.
