Earl W. Lovell Obituary

Earl W. Lovell, 83, of Naugatuck passed onto heavenly rest at his home on Sunday March 24, 2024 after a long illness.  He now joins the love of his life, his late wife Hannelore (Wolgast) Lovell after missing her these last four years.  Earl was born August 8, 1940 in Springfield Vermont, a son of the late Earl A and Irene (Hutchinson) Lovell.

Earl served as a Green Beret in the Vietnam war.  He was stationed in Germany for four years and then to Special Forces (Green Beret) in aviation units sent to Vietnam in support of Special Forces in the First Aviation Brigade.  After returning to the US, he applied his knowledge and precision to his work as a helicopter mechanic at Sikorsky Aircraft for 33 years.

While in Germany, he met the love of his life, Honey.  They married in 1960 in Munich. They were blessed with four children:  James, Janette, Henry and Daniel.  Family meant everything to Earl.  His joys grew with the births of each of his three grandchildren: Steven Nichols, Brendan Nichols and Cassandra Lovell.

Despite having witnessed the atrocities of war and humanity at its worst, he chose to celebrate and demonstrate the best of humanity throughout his life as a kind and loving husband and father.  His life is a tapestry of loving devotion to family and friends.  He applied his acute intellect and common-sense approach to everything he did.  After retiring, Earl spent the quiet years enjoying time with family.  Vermont was a favorite destination.  Being in nature brought him solace.

Earl leaves to cherish his love and memory his children Janette Nichols of PA., Henry “Hank” Lovell of NC and Daniel and wife Jackie Lovell of Naugatuck.  Besides his wife Honey, Earl is predeceased by his son James Lovell.

All services will be private at the convenience of the family.  Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Lovell family throughout this difficult time of grief.  Please visit www.prospectmemorial.com to share your favorite memories, photos and words of comfort.
