Frank W. (Bill) Young, Jr, 88, a longtime Quincy resident passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Blossom Creek, Wenatchee, WA.


He was born on March 12, 1936, to Frank and Louise Young in Yakima, WA. He attended school in Granger where he was active in the Boy Scouts, on the football team (captain his senior year) and was a photographer for the high school annual. Frank converted to Catholicism at the age of 18.


Frank married his high school sweetheart, Eva Heilman, on November 5, 1955. She was by his side throughout their 68 years of marriage and an active participant in all their adventures.


At 19 he started working at Stokely-Van Camp French fry plant in Zillah, WA and Mount Vernon, WA. In 1965 he started working for Brown & Kelly in Quincy. Frank was hired to oversee the building and set-up of the French fry plant which is currently known as Lamb-Weston. On December 7, 1965, Frank pushed the button that would start the production of French fries at the Quincy plant.


Frank was an active member of the Lions Club and received their Lifetime Achievement Award. He generously supported various charities and was an outspoken Republican.


Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and took his family on many memorable camping vacations in the San Juan Islands. He and Eva enjoyed traveling; some of their adventures took them to Israel, Turkey, Columbia, Spain, France, Belize, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Canada.


Frank enjoyed numerous activities during his life such as photography, horseback trail riding, fishing, hunting, boating, scuba diving, hang gliding, piloting small aircraft, cross country touring on a Goldwing motorcycle, and both water/snow skiing. He was self-taught in most of these adventurous hobbies.


Frank is survived by his loving wife, Eva, children Marrie (Frank) Muller, Everett Young, Lila (Terry) Schwint, Willard Young, Frank (Carol) Young III. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Don Folkman, sister, Betty Purkett and daughter-in-law, Stacey Young.


A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 11:00 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 805 Central Ave N, Quincy, WA
