<p>Bettie Christine Carter, 87, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away at home on Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024.</p><p>Bettie was born on December 2, 1936 in Carthage, Missouri to Floyd James and Josephine (Davis) James.</p><p><br></p><p>Bettie attended schools in Carthage through her Junior year where she participated in the Marching Band. Bettie moved before her Senior year to California, and graduated from Newport Harbor Union High School in 1954. After graduating she returned to Carthage, and worked at Big Smith in the accounting department.</p><p><br></p><p>She married Ray Harris Carter in July, 1956. They briefly lived in Colorado and Joplin before returning to Carthage in August, 1967. Bettie and Ray divorced in December, 1973. She worked as a bookkeeper at Moorehouse Sales and Service, Inc. and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1977, she moved her family to Austell, Georgia. She worked at Austell Box Board / Caraustar Industries, Inc. for 22 years in the payroll and benefits department, before taking early retirement in 1999.</p><p><br></p><p>During retirement, Bettie became an accomplished artist with a preference for oil painting. She participated in many local fairs and craft shows selling her art and winning competition ribbons.</p><p><br></p><p>She traveled extensively with her sister to Panama, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and parts of Europe. She loved animals and had many pets throughout her life. She especially loved horses, returning to riding in her early 80’s.</p><p>Bettie is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Margaret Ann Carter, sister and brother in law, Violet Joann and Gary Dennison.</p><p><br></p><p>Survivors include son, David (Jennifer) Carter of Powder Springs, Georgia; daughter, Diana (Todd) Miller of Douglasville, Georgia; grandchildren, Cole Miller, Sarah Miller and Jada Carter.</p><p><br></p><p>A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday April 21, 2024 at Exodus Ranch, Douglasville, Georgia.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Interment of ashes will be at Kenney Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>

Bettie Christine Carter, 87, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away at home on Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024.

Bettie was born on December 2, 1936 in Carthage, Missouri to Floyd James and Josephine (Davis) James.
