Magdalena Baldonado Garcia, 93, of Kīhei, Maui peacefully passed away at home on March 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 20, 1930 in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur Philippines.


A Celebration of Life will be held at Norman’s Mortuary in Wailuku on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 5 pm -Family, 6 to 9 pm- Eulogy, Reflections & Visitation. On Friday, April 19, 8 am-Family 9 to 12 pm-Visitation. Maui Memorial Park Cemetery is her final resting place to follow at 12:30 pm.


Magdalena “Maggie” is survived by her husband of 65 years, Amancio Garcia, sons, Giovanni (Jeanilyn), William (Lourdes), Jerome, Eugene, & Edward, and grandchildren, Joshua, Jamal, Joel, & Jerren and numerous nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Andres & Bonifacia Baldonado, brothers Isabelo Baldonado, Emilio Baldonado, and sister Nena Baldonado.


Magdalena graduated in 1954 from the prestigious Philippine Women’s University in Manila with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education & Home Economics. In 1956-58 she taught in the Division of Samar & City Schools in Cotabato and taught later on at Ampaguan Elementary School in the Philippines before immigrating with her family to Hawaii in 1978. On Maui, she taught English Language Learners to many successful students at Kihei Elementary School, Kamali’i Elementary School, and Maui Waena Intermediate School. Maggie also worked as a housekeeper @ Stouffer & Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort (Andaz) for 19 years. She finally retired in 1996.


Maggie loved dressing up, playing bingo, cooking pancit, cascaron & bibingka, gardening, eating at numerous restaurants, shopping at her favorite 99¢ only Store, and spending time with family & friends at different parties and events. Maggie was big-hearted, thoughtful, humble, fun-loving, & a generous lady.


Special mahalo to the staff of South Maui Adult Day Care in Kihei, (Janine, Tess, Emma, & Marilou), Ho’okele Caregivers of Maui (Shauna), Islands Hospice (Honey, Danielle, Lorri, Dr. Termulo) Maui County Office on Aging, 'Īao School Staff, Norman’s Mortuary (Alohalani), Maui Memorial Park, numerous family/friends, & caregivers for supporting her during the changing season of her journey. “Nana Maggie” will be remembered & dearly missed.
