Sara James Obituary

Sara James, a resident of Hernando, Mississippi passed away on March 21, 2024. She was born in Coffeeville, Mississippi on September 24, 1940 and as a young girl moved with her family to Memphis, Tennessee where she grew up. In 1958, she was chosen to participate as a princess in the parade of the Memphis Cotton Carnival. She graduated from Tech High School, the class of 1959 in Memphis, TN. She lived in Memphis until she and her late husband, Ronald Riley and their children moved to Desoto county, where she lived for 46 years. She was employed by Internal Revenue Service and retired in 2000 after 25 years of service.


Sara was preceded in death by both of her parents, Frank and Grace Jones (Dickerson); and her brothers, Bill Jones and Bobby Jones. She is survived by her husband of sixteen years, Jesse James; her children, Dennis Rozier, Laura (Cliff) Freeman, and Gina (Kirk) Stokes, and her bonus children, Edward (Cathy) James, Raymond (Wendy) James and Gerald (Melissa) James. Sara also leaves her much loved grandchildren, Andrea (Tres) LeTard, Randy (Jennifer) Tatum, Melissa (Zach) Gould, Riley Stokes, Brett Stokes. Bonus grandchildren, Mary (Seth) Seamans, Mike James, Chris (Tabatha) James, Lori (Josh) Suggs, Whitney (Chad) Brady, Daniel (Rhea) Freeman, Joshua (Amber) Freeman, Jaala Besch, Courtney (Juan) Rubalcaba and 13 great grandchildren. They all loved their “Nennie” very much!


Sara loved spending time and having fun with her close friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved traveling and traveled to beautiful places such as Turkey, China, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, many places in the Caribbean and all over the U.S. She once said she loved visiting Turkey the most because she got to tour the places that the apostle Paul traveled in that area. She loved the Lord and loved participating in Bible studies whenever she had the opportunity. Operation Christmas Child was one of her very favorite ministries to be a part of. She also volunteered for Dog Rescues in the area because of her love for animals. She was a member of New Day Fellowship Church in Southaven, MS.

The service will be held Saturday, April 13th at New Day Fellowship Church, 50 Starlanding Rd. Southaven, MS at 2:00 pm.
