<p>Dorothy Virginia Cates Cash, 81 of Ball Ground, Georgia passed away on March 24, 2024 (Palm Sunday) at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas after a brief battle with a rare cancer. Virginia was born in Jonesboro, Ga on June 28, 1942. It was in Jonesboro where she grew up and met the love of her life Billy Cash whom she married August 17, 1962. They had a wonderful, long marriage of 52 years until his passing February 16, 2016. Their spirits are now reunited in Heaven because of the love of Christ poured out for us all.</p><p><br></p><p>Virginia is preceded in death by her husband Billy, her parents Richard &amp; Missouri Elizabeth Cates, brothers Bill &amp; Richard Cates, and sisters Jackie Turner &amp; Joan Mathis, dear brothers and sister-in-laws, and several nephews. Surviving family are daughter and son in law Leah &amp; Steve Nolan, granddaughters SaraBeth &amp; Mary Nolan, sister and brother-in-law Gloria &amp; Glen Morgan, and many nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>Most of Virginia's adult life was spent in Sycamore, Ga raising her family on the family farm where Billy grew up. Later in life they relocated to Stockbridge, Ga to be closer to aging family. She worked for the Inspector General’s Office and after 9/11 transferred to the newly formed Homeland Security agency where she retired. After retirement they relocated to Canton, Ga. to be near their daughter’s family.</p><p><br></p><p>As a widow, Virginia found great joy in her church, First Baptist Church of Woodstock. She was a very active member of choir, the Bill Brown Sunday School Class and the Widows Ministry. She also enjoyed many trips directed by Reverend Ken Smith and the Senior Adult Ministry of FBCW. She loved sharing about the trip to the Holy Land where she got baptized in the Jordan! She also traveled on many trips with her friends and family. Virginia loved her yorkie named Lucy that was ever present beside her always dressed in matching outfits and bows. She truly enjoyed her time here sharing the love and joy of Christ!</p><p><br></p><p>Family would like lo thank the staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center Houston, Texas, specifically the Endocrinology and Head &amp; Neck Departments and the amazing staff of Floor P11 for using their God given talents to treat and care for Virginia in her final weeks. When she passed she had on a bracelet given to her by a nurse with Isaiah 41:10. They made her homecoming so peaceful and showed her constant Christian love!</p><p><br></p><p>The family will have visitation Good Friday, March 29, from 11:00 am -1:OOpm followed by a service officiated by son in law Steve Nolan &amp; Reverend Ken Smith at 1:OOpm at South Canton Funeral Home in Canton, Ga. Music will be led by Pastor Cliff Duren and welcome prayer by Bill Brown. Family &amp; friends are welcome to the graveside service immediately following at Camp Memorial Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ga where Virginia's body will be laid to rest beside her husband and near her parents and other family's graves. Pallbearers are nephew Tommy Mathis, close family friend Chuck Watkins and PAIRables Sunday School members James Breeden, Stacy Dukes, Kevin Greene, Andrew Richards, Daniel Blades and Joe Wallace.</p><p>Honorary pallbearers are nephews Ricky Cates, David Kimbreil, Mike Kluttz, Charles</p><p>McKennon and Dennis Turner.</p><p><br></p><p>South Canton Funeral Home, dedicated to the families we serve, 770-479-3377.
