Betty Lea Spencer Obituary

Betty Lea Spencer 95, of Manistee, passed away on Monday morning March 18th at home surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 28, 1928 in Evart and was the daughter of the late Russell & Elva (Hilliker) Hall. Betty married Crawford “Todd” Spencer in Boyne City on July 26, 1947. They shared 57 years together. Todd preceded her in death in 2004.

Betty and her husband were co-owners of Betty’s Red Barn for many years. She loved reading, gardening, taking care of her roses, playing cards, camping, and making homemade bread. She loved being with family and friends and always liked to give everyone a big hug.

Betty had a way with words and one of her favorite things she would always say was “Holy Ker-Toot”

.

Survivors include her five children; Kathy (Patrick) Foote of Gainesville, FL, Sharon Hankinson, Susan Brandt, and Russ (Sherry) Spencer all of Manistee, and Melissa (Doug) Bray of Bear Lake, one sister; Yvonne Matts of Boyne City, 14 grandkids, and 28 great grandkids.

She was also preceded in death by two sons-in-law; Dan Hankinson and Chuck Brandt, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy to the family would be appreciated.
