Robert Leigh Sheppard Obituary

Robert Leigh Sheppard was born on August 18, 1940 and passed away peacefully in his

sleep on March 16, 2024. He was born in Elkader, Iowa to Leigh Sheppard and Sylvia

(Walter) Sheppard. The family moved to Apache Junction, Arizona, where he spent his

younger years until he enlisted in the Navy and served 4 years on the USS Kitty Hawk. After

the Navy, he moved to Yuba City, California where he had a bread route that took him to

Reno where he met his wife to be, Bette Ginocchio Carns. Bob switched jobs and became

an agent for Prudential Insurance, where he worked for 26 years before retiring.

Bob was an avid cook and he and Bette greatly enjoyed entertaining, where they hosted

many Christmas parties, family reunion barbecues and an annual Labor Day golf tournament

for 20 years (and where more than one person swore off alcohol after the awards party).

They loved cruises, trips to Kona, Hawaii, summers camping in the Graeagle area and

winters in Arizona. Bob cherished his time with his three grandchildren, teaching them to

swim, garden, cook and especially making raviolis.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, his sister Margaret Crane and

brother Dale Sheppard. He is survived by his sister Phyllis Harrold (Pat) of Pomerene, AZ;

stepchildren Gina Ryan (Todd Welty) of Reno and Mark Carns of Gig Harbor, WA;

grandchildren, Aaron Ryan of Concord, CA, Katie Ryan (Kelsey) of Missoula, MT, Maggie

Rodriguez (Michael) of Reno and dear friend, Carrie Bono of Truckee, CA. A special thank

you to the VA Home Healthcare Team, especially his nurse, Jamie and Summit Group Home

for all their support and care.

A service will be held at Mountain View Mortuary on April 1st

at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to VA Sierra Healthcare System,

C/O Community Affairs, 975 Kirman Ave, Reno 89502.
