Obituary

William Norman Hooey, affectionately known as “Bill” to his friends and family, born March 18, 1955 passed away on March 21, 2024 at 1:47pm PST, in his home in Port Coquitlam, BC where he had just begun the next chapter of life this last fall. Bill was born and raised in Owen Sound and made his way to Toronto in his later years.

Bill enjoyed coaching baseball when his boys were young, golfing with his buddies, gardening, reading, travelling, family and friend gatherings, tinkering around the house and his latest passion of making artisan soaps, bath bombs and shampoos - this was his attempt to make the world a better place using all natural ingredients and biodegradable products.

Bill fought and survived multiple myeloma for almost 20 years having had two stem cell transplants, but that’s not what took his life…it was a new cancer that he fought hard right to the end.

Bill is survived by his wife Mary, children Nicholas (Becky), Brandon (Caitlin), Michelle and grandchildren Natalie, Kenzie, Luca, Cora, Theo, Owen, Matthew. Sister Norma-Lynn (Nelson) and family - Natasha, Nadia. Sister Cindy (Sean) and family - Echo (James), Sierra, Carter. Arial, Nathaniel, Aveleigh, Lavinia, Octavia. Shadow (Lyric), Sophia, Nolan. Brother-in-law Chris and family - Vanessa, Anthony (Paige), William, Autumn James. Evelyn (Jarrod), Quinn, Kaylee. Bobby (Shyla), Lily, Owen, Grayson. Brother Robert (Geraldine). Brother-in-law Charlie (Margie) and family - Julia (Jason), Alexander, Isaac. Andrea (Dave), Dylan, Julian.

Bill was predeceased by his sister Mary.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday July 7, 2024 at Jake’s on Main in Unionville, Ontario from 2:00-5:00pm for all! Hope you can join!

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make donations to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation – Cancer Education Program a www.pmcf.ca.

Think of Bill as you read a short poem entitled “Remember Me” by Margaret Mead.

To the living, I am gone,

To the sorrowful, I will never return,

To the angry, I was cheated,

But to the happy, I am at peace,

And to the faithful, I have never left.

I cannot speak, but I can listen.

I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.

So as you stand upon a shore gazing at a beautiful sea,

As you look upon a flower and admire its simplicity,

Remember me.

Remember me in your heart:

Your thoughts, and your memories,

Of the times we loved,

The times we cried,

The times we fought,

The times we laughed.

For if you always think of me, I will never have gone.

Rest in Peace.
