Obituary
Opal Jean (Ashley) Maxey, 101, passed away March 23, 2024, at OSF Heart of Mary Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. She had resided at Carriage Crossing in Arcola, Illinois, since December 2022.
Jean was born October 8, 1922, in Logan, Illinois, the daughter of the late John Allen and Alta Esther (Coleman) Ashley. She married Jack A. Maxey on April 25, 1943, in Paris, Illinois. They had fifty-seven years together, working together on the farm until their retirement in 1985, when they moved to Chrisman, Illinois. Jack passed away in 2001.
She is survived by a daughter, Sheri (Steve) Glithero of Chrisman; a niece, Jane Murray of Chrisman, who was like a daughter; as well as a granddaughter, Jeana (Ken) Krahn, and great-grandson, Jack Krahn both of Salem, Wisconsin. Besides her husband, Jack, she was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Stephania; and three sisters, Minnie Ellen Lucas, Faye Kitchens, and Norma Jager.
Jean was a member of the Chrisman United Methodist Church. She loved her Lord and church family and spent countless hours preparing for Sunday School and Bible studies over the years. Jean so loved her family and enjoyed seeing them grow into who they would become. Jean was devoted to her work and had boundless energy to accomplish tasks related to farm life: gardening, raising chickens, cooking for family and farmhands, and caring for her family and home. She had a wonderful, kind, loving heart and a willingness to help wherever needed. She was also a role model for her family and leaves countless beautiful memories.
For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to Chrisman United Methodist Church or to Hoult Cemetery.
