Jean was born October 8, 1922, in Logan, Illinois, the daughter of the late John Allen and Alta Esther (Coleman) Ashley. She married Jack A. Maxey on April 25, 1943, in Paris, Illinois. They had fifty-seven years together, working together on the farm until their retirement in 1985, when they moved to Chrisman, Illinois. Jack passed away in 2001.

She is survived by a daughter, Sheri (Steve) Glithero of Chrisman; a niece, Jane Murray of Chrisman, who was like a daughter; as well as a granddaughter, Jeana (Ken) Krahn, and great-grandson, Jack Krahn both of Salem, Wisconsin. Besides her husband, Jack, she was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Stephania; and three sisters, Minnie Ellen Lucas, Faye Kitchens, and Norma Jager.

Jean was a member of the Chrisman United Methodist Church. She loved her Lord and church family and spent countless hours preparing for Sunday School and Bible studies over the years.
