Walfy Roy Jr. Obituary

MONTICELLO - Walfy Roy, JR 77. Born on November 25, 1946 and passed away unexpectedly at Eastern Maine Medical Center on March 22, 2024.

Walfy devoted 45 years to the Houlton Fire Department and being a fire fighter was a great source of pride. He also served his country in the U.S. Army and was a proud Vietnam Veteran.

Walfy was naturally inclined to take care of others. He attended Houlton Schools in his youth.

Following his time in the service, Walfy was employed by Dead River Company, where he obtained his Master 1-6 Oils and Solid Fuel License (the only in the county at the time). This lead to the opening of his own business, “Roy’s Heating and Air Conditioning”. He also pursued his passion for snowmobiles by repairing sleds for countless friends and acquaintances. Many fond memories remain of his time with his community (more like a family) at his St. Croix Lake camp. There, he looked after the neighborhood, hosted many great meals, cribbage games, boat rides, and enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds.

Walfy was predeceased by his parents, Walfy and Edith (Frasier) Roy and sister, Shirley Pyle. He was the Best Friend of 42 years to Shelley Taylor, Brother of Thomas (Sandra) Roy, Father to Susanne (Jon) White, Michael (Sarah) Roy, Jason (Tina) Roy, Eric (Jennifer) Nelson and Ellen (Aaron Peabody) Bartlett.

He leaves behind many beloved Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.

One treasured niece said it best:

“How I would love just one more visit,

One more game of cribbage,

One more boat ride where we run out of gas on the other side of the lake,

One more story from the firehouse,

One more meal with you at the big camp table,

One more laugh at stories about Grammie,

One more day sitting at the porch watching the hummingbirds,

One more taste of spaghetti sauce,

One more hug,

One more chance to tell you how much you mean to the family.

Thank you for creating some of the best family memories we have. We love you.”

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Houlton Volunteer Fire Drpartment. A graveside service will be announced later in the spring by Bowers Funeral Home. To share memories and to leave condolences please visit www.bowersfuneral.com
