Donald Blimkie Pembroke Obituary

Donald Blimkie

BLIMKIE, Donald Gordon J. - Peacefully on Thursday, March 21st, 2024 at the Pembroke Regional Hospital at age 84. Predeceased by the love of his life, Rose Harper. Will be greatly missed by his sons Jamie (Jane, Ian, Eric Buck) and Dale (Lisa Frappier) and his pride and joy, grandson, Liam. Deeply missed by sister Grace (the late Harold Miller), by brothers Rodney (Lee-Anne Johns), Patrick (Janet Upston) and the late Daniel, by Rose's daughter Cathy (Wayne) Law, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Born and raised in Chalk River, Don's first job was working with his little sister Grace and parents (the late Gordon and Edna) in a Logging Camp. Don described that time as one of his fondest memories. He loved skidding logs with a team of horses! Don told me that he reluctantly took his job at AECL because he heard the guards carried guns. He stayed with AECL for 34 years. In the early years Don loved to hunt, fish, play hockey and even took up cross country skiing. In the later years, he and Rose would take long drives on country roads, dine out and watch the Senators on TSN. In the last few years Don and the "boys" as he called them (Gilbert, Ron, Terry, Marcel) would meet at Finnigans Restaurant every Tuesday and Thursday for lunch.

Respecting Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Church, Chalk River on Saturday, June 1st, 2024 at 11 a.m. Interment of Ashes in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Chalk River. We want to thank Aunt Grace, Uncle Pickle and Lee-Anne for always checking in on Dad with desserts on hand. A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the ICU at Pembroke Regional Hospital for taking great care of Don during his last days! Thank you Rev. Mitch Beachey for your visits and blessings for Don. And lastly, Betty for all the great haircuts and chats he enjoyed! Arrangements by the Neville Funeral Home, 491 Isabella St., Pembroke. Online Condolences may be left at www.nevillefuneralhome.ca

Hopefully heaven has a Tim Hortons! We love you Dad!
