Donna Dotson Hargis, age 89, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

Donna was born January 20, 1935, in Joplin, MO, daughter of the late Lonnie and Eva Dotson. She lived in the Springfield-Republic area for many years before moving to Carl Junction, MO. She was a graduate of Joplin High School and received her bachelor’s in education from Pittsburg State University and her master’s in secondary education and teaching from Drury University.

She retired as a teacher from the Republic R12 School District where she taught Home Economics for more than 20 years. After retirement, Donna continued her work in education as a substitute teacher at McKinley Elementary school in Joplin. She was a member of the Carl Junction Cultivators Garden Club and attended Carl Junction United Methodist Church and later First Assembly of God of Carl Junction.

She is survived by her two children, Gregory Hargis of Osage Beach, MO and Gretchen Hargis Farr and husband Mark of Holly Springs, NC, and two grandchildren, Grace Farr and Collin Farr. Additional survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Hunt of Searcy, AR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dolph Hargis, sister Lonna Lewis and brother Jerry Dotson.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 28 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Thornhill-Dillon chapel. Funeral service will be held at Thornhill-Dillon on Friday, March 29th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
