HONAKER-Jerry Edison Deel (Jed) 71, of the Drill section of Honaker, VA formally of Russell Prater, passed away at his home on March 24, 2024. He was the son of the late Charlie and Beulah (Mullins) Deel. He was of the Christian faith, enjoyed watching westerns and NASCAR. He was very proud of his mullet hairstyle that he has had for many years.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roger Deel, Toby Deel and Richard “Pete” Deel, one sister-in-law, Grace Deel, one brother-in-law, Ed Charles, niece Angel Deel and nephews Toby Allen Deel and Jeffery Charles.

Survivors include the mother of his sons, Tonya Deel of Abingdon, VA, the mother of his daughters, Mary Davis of Cosby, TN, his four children, Devon (Samanatha) Deel of the home, Marty Brown, Abingdon, VA, Crystal (Matt) Moore of Lebanon, VA and Tammy (Joe) Ratliff of Vansant, VA. Eight grandchildren, Tessa (Chase) Lane, Westmoreland, TN, Austin (Allison) Ratliff, Meadowview, VA, Shawn “Luke” Steele, Lebanon, VA, Landon, Brandon and Maggie Brown all of Abingdon, VA Hunter (fiancé’ Haley Hodge) Moore, Lebanon, VA and Arielle Moore, Roanoke, VA. Two great-grandchildren, Charli Mae and Bowen Lane, Westmoreland, TN. One sister, Sandra Charles, two brothers, Billy (Joann) Deel and Dean Deel, two sisters-in-law Kathy Deel and Joann Deel all of Vansant, VA, and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday March 28, 2024 at the Charles-Deel Cemetery, Viers Branch with Mike Rife officiating. Family will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Haysi Funeral Home where a song service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
