Duk Yi Son

<p>Duk Yi (Kim) Son, 89, of Huntsville, Al, passed away on March 22, 2024, peacefully in her sleep. Duk Yi was born on April 5, 1934, in Osaka, Japan to Yie June Kim and Tong Nam Li. Her family moved back to Korea in her early childhood. She met and married Young Un Son in 1953 and went on to have five children. Young Un and Duk Yi made the brave decision to immigrate to the United States with their family in February 1976, settling in Ardmore, Alabama. Her family moved to Huntsville in 1977 and in 1980 they were founding members of the Huntsville Korean Presbyterian Church.</p><p><br></p><p>Duk Yi was a devout Christian who was active in her church, serving as a leader of the women's ministry since 1985. She later attended G3 Madison Evangelical Church where she was a deaconess. Duk Yi was also an avid vegetable gardener who tended to her plants for many years. She enjoyed crocheting and was devoted to her family.</p><p><br></p><p>Duk Yi was predeceased by her husband, Young Un Son, and son, Gung Ho Son. She is survived by her children, Kun Ju (Joung Oak) Son, Joung Ju (Greg) Curtin, Joung Sook (John) Mellen, and Joung Kyoung (Paul) Batson. She leaves behind eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be Tuesday, March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 27 at 10 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Ave SW, Huntsville, AL 35805. Burial will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens.</p><p><br><br></p>&nbsp;<p><br><br></p><p></p>
