<p>Pete, as he was known&nbsp;to all, died peacefully&nbsp;Tuesday morning with&nbsp;family at his side. He was&nbsp;born in Worcester&nbsp;Massachusetts to Arthur&nbsp;C. Akerson and Francis&nbsp;E. O'Malley. He grew up&nbsp;in San Pedro CA, the&nbsp;eldest of six children.&nbsp;Pete is survived by his&nbsp;wife, seven children, nine grandchildren, two great&nbsp;grandchildren and three sisters.</p><p>Pete served in the United States Navy Submarine Service&nbsp;for 26 years; traveling the world to places such as Scotland</p><p>and Vietnam. A.C. Akerson retired with full honors at the&nbsp;rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was very proud of his</p><p>naval career, proclaiming until his final days “If they'd let me,&nbsp;I'd do it all over again.”&nbsp;After his retirement Pete continued to work, eventually taking&nbsp;him to Reno, Nevada where he lived for the remainder of his&nbsp;life. Pete was very active with the U.S. Submarine Veterans.&nbsp;Here he found connection with his fellow veterans, making&nbsp;many friends and engaging in the community.</p><p>His family is forever grateful to the staff of the Northern&nbsp;Nevada Veterans Home and Eden Hospice for all their care</p><p>and support, allowing Pete dignity and grace in his final&nbsp;months.&nbsp;A memorial service will be held at the Northern Nevada</p><p>Veterans Memorial Cemetery. 14 Veterans Way Fernley, NV&nbsp;89408 on April 5, 2024 at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers his</p><p>family requests donations be made to the Northern Nevada&nbsp;Veterans Home in Reno Nevada to help support their</p><p>continued efforts and care of our communities veterans.</p>

Obituary

Pete, as he was known to all, died peacefully Tuesday morning with family at his side. He was born in Worcester Massachusetts to Arthur C. Akerson and Francis E. O'Malley. He grew up in San Pedro CA, the eldest of six children. Pete is survived by his wife, seven children, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and three sisters.

Pete served in the United States Navy Submarine Service for 26 years; traveling the world to places such as Scotland

and Vietnam. A.C. Akerson retired with full honors at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was very proud of his

naval career, proclaiming until his final days “If they'd let me, I'd do it all over again.” After his retirement Pete continued to work, eventually taking him to Reno, Nevada where he lived for the remainder of his life.
