Darrell Robert Wood, 67, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024.

Darrell was born in Macon County, North Carolina, to the late George Wood and Doris Mills (Wood) Mathis. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, his parents, his nephews Jack Swafford and Jeremy Swafford, and his grandson Greyson Giles.

Darrell is remembered as a man who loved his family, was a hard worker, loved humor, music, vegetable and flower gardening, spending time outdoors, a good game of cards, and most of all he loved God.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Clark Wood and stepdaughter Lyndie Cowan Giles (Keith), both of Franklin. His first wife, Glenda Lopes Kelly; and their three children; Dana Michele Wood of Franklin, Vanessa Leann Wood of Franklin, and Robert Duran Wood (Sterling) of Franklin; grandchildren; Riley and Leilu Wood, Arleigh Hodgin, Bryson, and Madisyn Giles, all of Franklin.

In addition, Darrell is survived by seven siblings; Gladys Swafford (Joe) of Franklin, Glenda Weeks of Waycross Georgia, Earl Wood (Anita) of Canton North Carolina, Margie Goyne (John) of Pateros Washington, Melody Swafford (Randy) of Cumberland Maryland, David Woods of Franklin North Carolina, Wilma Lynn Wood of Franklin North Carolina, along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces/ nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

The family is receiving friends from 12 to 1pm, on Wednesday, March 27, at Macon Funeral Home. The funeral will be held after the visitation in the chapel at Macon Funeral Home, Pastor Phillip Cochran will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Greenville, South Carolina.
