Mary Louise Savage Obituary

Mary Louise Price Savage passed away March 23, 2024 joining her Heavenly Father and many family members.

Mary was born May 6, 1934 to Lemuel Carl and Ada Ruth Holland Price in Denton, Texas. She was the oldest of four sisters, Martha Fay Whatley and Fannie May (twins), Thora Marie Stowe and Anna Sue Battista. When she was 8 years old Mary’s life changed drastically when her dad suddenly passed away. She grew up quickly helping her mother raise her three younger sisters, cooking, cleaning, gardening, working in the cotton fields, taking in ironing, refereeing arguments between sisters and anything else with which their mother needed assistance. The young family moved to Courtney, Oklahoma to be closer to extended family shortly after losing their Dad. Mary attended Courtney Public Schools where she met Herbie Lee Savage. She married Lee when she was 17. A year later Terry Lee was born. And 3 1/2 years later Cynthia (Cindy) was born. They made their home in Ringling, Oklahoma. They were close to Lee’s parents, Zora and Harry Savage, Lee’s brothers, sisters, and spouses. They also visited frequently with Mary’s mother, sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Their lives revolved around family and visiting with family was their annual vacation. In 1960, Mary, Lee, Terry, and Cynthia moved to Ratliff City, Oklahoma where Lee worked in the oil field. They became actively involved in all Fox Public Schools activities. In 1968 their family was complete when Scott was born. Mary worked at Fox Schools as a cafeteria worker and later as a teaching aide in the elementary school. Mary was a member of the Ratliff City First Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery on Sunday mornings rocking all the babies. She worked Vacation Bible School every year serving many cups of grape Kool-Aid and cookies. Mary and Lee always had a large vegetable garden and several fruit trees. Mary was a meticulous housekeeper, good cook, made many quilts and loved to sew, making clothes for herself and Cynthia. Canning vegetables and fruit was a family endeavor. Her lime sweet pickles were the best.

Mary’s life took another unexpected and difficult turn when Lee passed away from a heart attack in 1980 at age 48. She was 44. Mary and Scott remained in Ratliff City until Scott graduated high school and started college. Mary eventually moved to Oklahoma City to be near Scott and Cynthia’s families. She was an active member of the Rancho Village Baptist Church preparing and serving many funeral dinners. She enjoyed her home in Oklahoma City and being near her grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Ada, husband Lee, son Terry, and sisters Martha Faye Whatley and Fanny Mae (who died in infancy). She was also preceded in death by her beloved sisters and brothers-in-law, Dale Stowe, Eugene Whatley, Jack and Bernice Savage, Earl and Pauline Howard, Bee and Laverne Walker, R.T. and Lorene Longest, Coy and Freda Savage, Daryl and Betty Savage. Mary is survived by Cynthia (Cindy) and Leroy Cantrell of Oklahoma City, Scott and Jennifer Savage of Midwest City and daughter-in-law Susan Savage of Sheridan, Wyoming. She is also survived by grandchildren, Connor and Kimberly Cantrell of Parker, CO, Mallory and John Tecmire of Norman, OK, Caleb and Abby Savage of Oklahoma City, David and Elizabeth Savage of Midwest City, Kylee, John and Ryker Savage of Midwest City. Mary also had five great grandchildren, Declan and Bailey Cantrell, Ivy and Wyatt Tecmire and Alma Savage.
