<p>Mari Susan AbbottDeMeritt, 73 of Coldwater, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2024 at her home in Coldwater. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 25, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy, MI with Rev. Dr. Jesse Abbott officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.</p><p>She was born August 2, 1950 to Glenwood and Ethel (Rumsey) Abbott in Coldwater, MI. Mari was a graduate of Quincy High School class of 1968 and on February 7, 1970 she married Jerry D. Demeritt who preceded her in death on November 18, 1990. Mari led a long and dedicated career with Quincy Community Schools as a bus driver until her retirement in February of 2004. With a kind and nurturing heart, Mari continued to service the youth of Branch County as she also mentored and tutored many children for 32 years. Mari had a fondness for puzzles and making crafts; but above all, she loved and cherished her family and friends. She will be dearly missed as a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.</p><p>Mari leaves behind her adopted son Donnie Hills of Hesperia, MI; her siblings Gary (Lori) Abbott of Quincy, Rev. Dr. Jesse (Cindy) Abbott of Loveland, OH, Cody (Tim) Abbott of Chicago, IL; her grandchild Keilee Jo Demeritt, and her many loving nieces and nephews.</p><p>In addition to her husband Jerry Demeritt, Mari was preceded in death by her parents, her son Lance Demeritt, and her sister Sherry Stephens.</p><p>Memorial donations are suggested to the Branch County Humane Society.</p>
