George A. Smith Obituary

George A. Smith, 90, of Wernersville and formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2024, in the care of Laureldale Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was the life partner of the late M. Pearl Stewart, who passed away in 2015.


Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Daniel J. and Marguerite M. (Seyler) Smith. George was employed as a supervisor at the Reading Water Authority, retiring in 1975 after 16 years. He also served in the National Guard.


He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where he served as a Sexton for 28 years. George co-owned S & B Arco Garage of Temple. He enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games and drinking a good beer. He also enjoyed playing golf and pinochle with friends or spending time with his family, who frequently visited him until his passing. George adored his cats who have been waiting for him across the rainbow bridge.


George is survived by his brother, James R. Smith (Kathleen); four nieces and nephews whom he loved like his own children: John Reed (Janet), Andrea Reed, Kathy Layman (Scott), and Debbie Ioannidi (Dino); seven great nieces and nephews; and eight great-great nieces and nephews. He was truly everyone's favorite uncle.


He was predeceased by his siblings Gloria Briedegam and Daniel J. Smith, Jr.


A Celebration of George’s Life will be held privately at his family’s convenience.
