Shirley C. (Griffin) Lariviere Obituary

Shirley C. (Griffin) Lariviere, 92, longtime Auburn resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus.


She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Robert B. “Bob” Lariviere, in March, of 2013. Shirley leaves her devoted daughters, Sheryl A. Jyringi and her husband Craig, of Rochdale, Sharon M. Lariviere, of Auburn, Tracy E. Lariviere and her wife Serena Wood, of Dudley, and Catherine M. Lariviere and her husband Craig Tessler, of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Nicole Jyringi and her husband Thomas Adams, of Sturbridge, and Zachary and Sebastian Tessler, of Los Angeles, CA; two great-granddaughters, Avery and Teagan Adams, of Sturbridge; a sister-in-law, Pauline Belair, of Auburn; as well as several nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones. Shirley was also predeceased by her siblings, Raymond Griffin, Rita Griffin, Marian O’Brien and her husband Donald, and Claire Griffin.


She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Patrick Joseph Griffin and Sarah (Reynolds) Griffin. Shirley was raised and educated in Worcester, graduating from Commerce High School, Class of 1949. She then attended the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, from which she graduated in 1952 as a Registered Nurse.


Shirley had a long career in nursing, and was first employed by Mercy Hospital in Forst Smith, Arkansas, and later did private-duty nursing and worked at several local nursing homes.


Shirley was very active with St. Joseph’s Parish in Auburn, where she taught CCD classes and volunteered for the thrift shop. She was also a Eucharistic Minister at Life Care Center of Auburn, and prayed the rosary monthly with the residents.


Shirley was an animal-lover through and through, and especially delighted in her dogs and cats over the years. She also enjoyed music of many varieties.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Lariviere family from 9:30 – 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM, and will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
