Obituary
James Grey “Jay” Shealy, Jr., 66, husband of Vickie Smith Shealy, died Wednesday,
March 20, 2024, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born October 9, 1957, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Grey “Jim” Shealy, Sr.
and the late Mary Sue Ross Shealy. He was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church.
He was employed by Nova Molecular Technology and by multiple Harley-Davidson
dealerships as a riding instructor.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years; two sons, James Grey Shealy, III (Sara Marie) of
Sumter and Joshua Lee Shealy (Hannah Grace) of Easley; two grandchildren, Emerson
Grace Shealy and Scarlett Marie Shealy; and two brothers, Steve Shealy (Carole) of
Springfield, GA and Matt Shealy (Jennifer) of Indianapolis, IN.
Jay was a Godly man and a loving husband, father and grandfather (Pops) to his family
and friends. He never let a day go by that he did not tell you that he loved you and every-one knew it was truly from his heart.
Jay was a very talented musician and used his God given talent to spread God’s love
through music ministry at Crosswell Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Trinity
United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Grace Baptist Church, and Alice
Drive Baptist Church. His musical experiences spanned a wide range of performances.
Prime Time, Brandy, Sumter Little Theater, among others as well as arranging and con-ducting the Sumter Singing Christmas Tree.
Jay had a passion for spreading the love of Jesus to his family, work friends and
motorcycle friends. He made it a life goal to ride all 50 states from the seat of a Harley
Davidson motorcycle and HE DID IT!!!! Jay received such joy at seeing God’s beautiful
country with his two sons, brother, nephew and very dear friend. But the very greatest
joy he received was from his two precious granddaughters, Emerson Grace and Scarlett
Marie. He was so looking forward to loving his third granddaughter, Violet Sage in July.
To God be the glory forever and ever! Amen. Galatians 1:5
