<p>Robert J. Calve, 88, of Bessemer, PA passed away the morning of March 21, 2024 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. </p><p><br></p><p>Born in Ellwood City on June 19, 1935 Bob was the son of the late Giacomo and Teresa Drago Calvi.</p><p><br></p><p>Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, the former Pauline DiBernardo.</p><p><br></p><p>Robert Calve was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, friend, and esteemed member of the community. As a loving Papa, Bob never missed any of his grandchildren’s events. Bob touched the lives of many with his warmth, kindness, and his unique sense of humor. A 1954 graduate of Ellwood City Lincoln High School, Bob enlisted in the US Air Force and was part of the Strategic Air Command. Achieving the rank of staff sergeant, he was honorably discharged in 1958. After his service in the Air Force, he worked for nearly 30 years at Youngstown Sheet and Tube until 1986. During his retirement, he started working at the Brighton Hotdog Shoppe, where he was affectionately known as “Uncle Bob” until he retired at the age of 70. </p><p><br></p><p>Outside of his family, Bob was most proud of his association with the Bessemer Rod and Gun Club where he held different offices. He was also an active member of the Johnson Club and Bessemer Croatian Club. </p><p><br></p><p>Proud of his Italian Heritage, Bob found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in the company of family and friends. Bob made lifelong friends during his time at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, coached Hillsville Little League, and was associated with numerous clubs and organizations. His humor and camaraderie brought light to every gathering, creating memories that will last for generations. Bob's legacy of kindness, generosity, and community spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.</p><p><br></p><p>Bob is survived by his children, Robin Massaro (Patrick), Terilee Malvar (Ronald) and Robert Calve (Rebecca), five grandchildren, Haylee Massaro, Taylor Massaro (Stephen Wang), Olivia Malvar, Isabella Calve and Garrett Calve, one great-granddaughter, Mia Wang and numerous nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his three brothers, Frank, John and Ralph Calve and six sisters, Mary Macri, Rose Macri, Delina Calve, Elizabeth Tropea, Josephine Crispino and Margaret Crispino.</p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jim Hartz at Home Helpers, as Jim started as Bob’s caregiver and ended up being a close friend.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be on Thursday, March 28th 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Ed &amp; Don DeCarbo Funeral Home &amp; Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full Military Rites at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:45 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Matthew Bupp officiating.</p><p><br></p><p>Donations may be made to the Charity of the Donor’s choice.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
