Florence L. White Obituary

Florence Louise White (Shelley), 95, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Chichester, NH affectionately known as "Meme”, “Meme Flo” or “Grandma”, passed away of a brief illness, Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024 at Mease Countryside Hospital in Clearwater, FL. Born in Concord, NH on June 18, 1928, the daughter of Fred Shelley and Beatrice Cora (Wallace) Hulse.

Florence was previously employed by Dance Inspirations - 3 years and Capital City Dance Center for 28 years. In Florence’s early life, she worked at WKXL Radio Station, Concord Hospital, Endicott Shoe, and Concord School District (as everyone’s favorite lunch lady).

She was a former member of the Millville 4-H Club, serving as its leader for over 55 years.  Everyone’s favorite was making jams and jellies with her.  She taught her 4-h’ers to be self-sufficient, confident in themselves and to never give up.  There is not just one way to get things done.  She also took great pride in helping with the county goat club (Nanny Berry Lane).

She was a part of the Penacook Jr. Women’s club.  She co-directed the rabbit and poultry barn at the Hopkinton State fair for over 35 years.  She was often seen at the fair speaking to the public about the proper care of rabbits and poultry.   In the early years of the 4-H chicken BBQ, she oversaw prepping the side dishes each day that were added to the meals including making her famous coleslaw from scratch.

Throughout her four children’s lives, she volunteered numerous hours for their school parties, field trips, teacher helper, band shows, school plays and school dances.  She was often the first parent who volunteered and organized to work in the sporting event food tables/shacks for home games.

She was an active member of the West Congregational Church in Concord, NH for over 60 years. She was a former member of WE-CO-ACS and served as chairwomen for the annual Christmas Church bizarre until 2020.  She also made sure every funeral had a unique spread of food for the luncheon after services.  She would give back to her church, 4-H family, and community by cooking for whatever, whenever the needed it.

Florence moved to Florida in 2021 and started a new hobby - bingo, making sure all the attendees got a taste of her made from scratch cooking every Friday night.

Florence was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Cecil White.

She is survived by two sons, Eugene White and his wife, Patricia of Concord and Peter White and his wife, Janis of South Carolina; two daughters, Pamela White and her husband, Jeffrey Dahl of Davenport, FL and Sharon Wescomb and her husband, John of Largo, FL; 10 grandchildren, Keith, Chris, Jonathan, Greg, Matt, Garry, Brett, Jordan, Molly, Nadia and honorary grandson, Jake; 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
