Carl Theodore Alberts Obituary

Carl Theodore Alberts, 85, of Manistee, passed away peacefully at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, Florida, on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Carl was born in Flint, Michigan, on September 18, 1938, to Carl Nels and Marjorie Lucille (Church) Alberts, who preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of Flint Bentley High School in 1956. Immediately after high school, he went to work at Michigan Bell Telephone, where he was a cable splicer. He spent his entire career at the telephone company, retiring in 1988.

Carl married Martha Margaret Cook on April 12, 1958, in Davison, Michigan, and she survives. They celebrated their 65th anniversary last April, and they have wintered in Florida since retiring.

In 1970, the family moved from Flint to Manistee, thinking it was a stepping stone to go further up north. Once the family settled in Manistee, they realized they loved the area and decided to stay.

Carl was an avid outdoorsman. He was a founding member of the Deer and Aspen Club and a long time participant with a Canadian fly-in fishing group. He was a skilled water skier and slow pitch softball player in his younger years, a talented bowler, and a golf enthusiast. He was a long time member of the Manistee Lions Club. Other hobbies of Carl’s include bargain shopping and finding deals, singing his little ditties, cooking, traveling, camping, gardening, crossword puzzles, and talking!

Along with his wife, Carl is survived by his three children - Kevin (Tracy Wardle) Alberts of Ludington, Karen Alberts of Manistee, and Kendra (Mike) Thompson of Manistee. Siblings Joyce Romanowski of Davison, Betty (George) Tarrant of Montrose, and Bruce (Deb Rozan) Alberts of Howell all survive. Carl leaves behind grandchildren Andrea (Ronnie) Smith of Virginia, Kenny (Rose) Alberts of Virginia, Gretchen (Adam) Schimke of Manistee, Kyle (Anne) Thompson of Lansing, and Carmen Rose Wardle of Ludington, and great grandchildren Skylee Alberts, Lauryn Smith, and Jenna Smith, all of Virginia. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

According to his wishes, Carl has been cremated. A celebration of life will take place in the summer.
