Charles Joseph Mirucki Obituary

Charles Joseph Mirucki, 93, of Fayetteville, NY, entered into the loving hands of God on March 12, 2024.

Charlie was born on March 4, 1931 in Manchester, CT to Polish emigrants Jacob and Josephine Mirucki. The 5th of 6 siblings, he graduated Manchester High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering at the University of Notre Dame in 1954. He served in the US Air Force Reserve as an officer in Fort Worth, Texas. His work as an Commercial Architect, which he loved immensely, brought him to Syracuse, NY. He began at Sargeant, Webster, Crenshaw and Folley, moving on to Quinlevan Pierik and Krause (QPK), and finishing his career at Niagara Mohawk.

Charlie had a love for melodies: from singing polish folk song duets with his mother at a young age, to listening to classical music with the lights turned off with his childhood and lifelong friend "Redzie". Hardly a day would go by without hearing him humming a tune, or belting one out. He was also notorious for his love affair with food and he was always making sure of a good plan for his next meal!

On a special Syracuse Ski Club trip to Vermont, with the group singing on the entire bus trip, he met Maureen Donegan. She “happened” to join him on a chairlift ride when she began singing, “I feel a song coming on”, and they were inseparable ever since. The two exchanged Charles Schulz’s Peanuts cartoon cut outs as “love notes” until they wed on May 27,1967 at Holy Cross Church in Dewitt. The loving couple moved to Fayetteville, shared a strong faith and loved Immaculate Conception church, where they found a great community family that has remained through his final days.

As a young couple, Charles and Maureen loved their bowling league and stacked up many trophies. Their sports activities grew into a love of golf as they joined the Cavalry Club, and eventually became golf addicts at the Pompey Club, which continued on through their retirement years. He often boasted of winning the Senior Net Champion 3 years in a row. In the 1980’s, they created many memorable community cabaret shows in the IC gym. Much laughter and camaraderie continued with their beloved church friends and neighbors as the “Pierson Road players” - creating many hysterical moments with homemade ad-libbed skits and shows.

Charlie loved to polka -- he and Maureen attended many polka fests in the upstate NY area bringing lots of friends in tow. He also fully adopted his beloved Maureen’s Irish culture, so much so that he favored singing Irish tunes and attended multiple Irish festivals and “feis”es in the area -- even winning an award for his heartfelt rendition of “Danny Boy”. Together, they established “The Seventeeners of Syracuse” in 1992. This social group shared songs and laughter in pubs around Syracuse on the 17th day of every month to fully extend the frolic of St. Patrick's day.

After retirement he kept busy by drafting floor plans for friends and trying to best his time solving sudoku puzzles. He traveled yearly to Hilton Head and shared much time and love with his family. He became passionate about encouraging people to find their own happiness and fulfillment through making others happy and focusing on the human spirit - a topic he was known for from his many letters to the editor over the years.

Charlie, affectionately known as “Jadgie”, was preceded in death by his wife Maureen, and is survived by his children in North Carolina: Molly (Mirucki) Robidoux and Steve, Marc Mirucki and Julia (Kim); and his grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Robidoux and Madison Mirucki. He has many adoring friends, nieces, nephews that will continue to share their love of his enduring laughter and songs from their hearts.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Church – 10:30AM wake, 11:30 AM Mass, with luncheon reception immediately following. Live stream link www.icfayetteville.org/funerals may also be accessed permenantly after his funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be forever grateful for friends/family to leave any words about him here on the memory wall of this website.
