Obituary
Phyllis Ann Fender, age 81, of Heltonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
Born on March 12, 1943 in Bloomington, Indiana, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Walter and Delphia Hodges.
Phyllis was a dear friend, devout Christian, and a long-time member of Burgoon Baptist Church where she grew her faith and fellowship. She loved hummingbirds, flowers, and was well-known for her ‘Fender Fudge’, where she worked tirelessly to deliver boxes of fudge to those she loved.
Survivors include daughters, Theresa Hargis (Daniel) and Vicky Mullins (Art); grandchildren, Carrie Sowder (Mark Mitchell), Josh Washel, Jeremy New (Jessica), Zachary New (Jessica) Marshall Mullins, John Mullins, Arthur Mullins III, Eli Hargis, and Bruce Dillman; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Tiffany Sowder, Gracie New, Zane New, Norah New, Gavin New, Hudson New, Aurora New, Ian New, Logan Honeycutt, Sophia Mullins, Mason Mullins, and Ethan Mullins; brothers, Jerry Hodges and Michael (Bobbie) Hodges; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Vicky Butcher, Marilyn Mullins, and Patty Payne.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick “Fred” Fender; daughter, Rebecca Washel; and brother, David Hodges.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. A service will be held at The Funeral Chapel at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, March 25, 2024 with Rev. Harold Godsey officiating. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery in Bloomington.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the staff at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, Infusion Center, and Dr. Rana, for their kindess, compassion, and outstanding love for Phyllis.
