Alexander George ‘Olie’ Lychwa, formerly of Clifford and Guelph, passed away in Fergus, on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the age of 75.

Born in Salzburg, Austria on February 3, 1949, Alex emigrated to Canada as an infant with his Ukrainian parents, John and Stephania (Pysarchuk) Lychwa.

Father to Andrew (Liz), George (Luanne), Rebecca (Rob), and Amy (Grant), and stepfather to Timothy Walker.

Proud ‘Dido’ to Ava Peseski and Amelia Lychwa.

Alex was predeceased by his long-time partner Colleen Walker and her son Sean Walker.

Alex is survived by his sisters Irene Hearn (Gary), Donna Lychwa (Rob Simpson), and Sandra Phillips (Michael).

Uncle Olie will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

As a long distance trucker and mechanic by trade, he enjoyed many long-distance adventures through Canada and the United States. He was most proud to finally own his own company “Silvercreek Transport’ in Teviotdale, along with his partner Colleen.

Alex committed many years to AA programs in the Guelph and Hanover area, sponsoring many friends in their journeys.

Since his cancer diagnosis in 2018, his caregivers at Caressant Care Retirement Home have provided a “quality of life” for which we are very grateful. Special thanks to Densie, Ellie and Barb at CCF, and to the palliative care team at Groves Memorial Hospital.

A celebration of Alex’s life will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with Words of Remembrance at 1:30 p.m.

Memorial donations to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Guelph, Ukrainian Refugees' Fund would be appreciated.

Throughout his journey, Alex found immense joy in the simple pleasures that brought him happiness: sitting in his rocking chair at his Clifford home, enjoying the view, and more recently his unwavering love for Pepsi and creamhorns. Raise a glass of Pepsi in his honour and to remember.
