Paul Edward Berry Obituary

Carthage - Paul Edward Berry, 72, passed away peacefully at his sister’s home on Thursday, March 21, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones after a brief time on hospice. He was born in Rumford on November 1, 1951, one of fourteen to Sidney and Janice (Knox) Berry. He graduated from Dirigo High School in 1971 and began working in the area, finishing his career at Irving Sawmill as a packager.

Paul loved the outdoors and all it had to offer him. He found himself at peace in Byron, Maine, where he would often try his luck gold panning. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with his good friend Al Smith and was happy at his own oasis set back from it all where family and friends would gather for barbecues, complete with a playground for the kids, a swimming pool to cool off, cornhole, horseshoes, and only the best country music from the 50’s and 60’s. His favorite seasons were fall and summer, but seeing children appreciate winter weather brought him great joy. He donated many pairs of ice skates to kids in the area which opened new opportunities to them.

He was a fan of Nascar driver #24, Jeff Gordon, and would often request a smashburger be prepared for him to devour while watching the race. When Paul needed to shop, he would call his close friend, Terri Turner, and the pair would add in a pit stop at McDonalds before the day was through.

Paul is greatly missed by his family and friends and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

He is survived by his siblings: Roger Berry, Deborah Berry, Carl Berry, Willis Berry, Robert Berry, Bernard Berry, Shirley Garland, Pamela Bradbury, Gladys Carver, Glenda Lamoly, Sherwood Berry, and a nephew who was more like a brother, Sidney Berry; 26 nieces and nephews; 35 great nieces and nephews; and many other family members. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ronald Berry; and a sister, Jeanette Wing.

Family and friends are invited to attend Paul’s Celebration of Life at the family camp in Carthage on April 27, 2024, from 1pm until.
