<p>St. Albans Town - Daniel Paul Gilbert, 86, passed away at his home with his loving family by his side on March 16, 2024. </p><p><br></p><p>Daniel was the eldest of five children to the late Paul and Kathleen (Mackin) Gilbert. He was born in Fairfield, VT. Daniel lived his life in Franklin County.</p><p><br></p><p>Daniel was educated in Franklin and Sheldon Schools. He worked on the family farms. Dan did general construction where he became a journeyman for masonry. Daniel was an extraordinary mason brick layer for 40 years. </p><p><br></p><p>Daniel met the love of his life, Pearl Rogers, in 1965. Recently celebrating 58 years of marriage on February 19, 2024. </p><p><br></p><p>Daniel was an avid deer and bird hunter. He enjoyed ice fishing, camping and traveling. He was a member of the Georgia Lion’s Club and he coached baseball for the Georgia farm leagues, little leagues and assisted Babe Ruth teams for many years. Dan enjoyed attending his son’s sporting events all through their high school years. </p><p><br></p><p>Dan and Pearl were active members for 30 years at the Ascension Church in Georgia, VT. Dan was a great story teller, prankster and had a wonderful sense of humor. Often sending a mason tender looking for a “sky hook tool!” Dan was always willing to help a friend or family member in need. </p><p><br></p><p>Daniel is survived by his wife, Pearl (Rogers) Gilbert of St. Albans and two sons. Paul Gilbert and his children, Daniela and Nicolas of Colorado Springs, CO. Christopher Gilbert and his wife Ashley along with their sons, Elijah and Lucas of Montgomery, MA. Siblings; Michael and Thetis Gilbert, Sharon and Kerwin Flanders. His sisters-in-law and spouses; Sharron and Lee West and Valerie and David Clark. Daniel had many nieces, nephews and cousins, several great nieces and nephews and a multitude of great great nieces and nephews. Daniel is survived by lifelong friends Norman and Carmen Gosselin, Alice Sturgeon and the Ascension Church Community. Daniel also leaves behind Panda, the family kitty. Daniel touched many lives throughout his lifetime, he was one of those people who could talk to anyone and was sure to bring laughter from a story. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. </p><p><br></p><p>Daniel is predeceased by two brothers; Patrick and Robert Gilbert. </p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to thank Nicole (Nicky) Murray for her excellent care and friendship to Dan over the past 2 years. The Bayada Hospice Team for their kindness and caring nature in providing in-home care. The Alzheimer’s Disease Research group for their help and support in many areas. </p><p><br></p><p>A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 12, 2024 at 10:00am at the Ascension Church on Route 7 in Georgia, VT. Reverend Maurice Roy officiating.
