Wayne Fanning Obituary

James Wayne Fanning was born on November 13th, 1939. He was a beloved husband, father, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather who passed away peacefully on March 20th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ruby Fanning, and by his siblings Francis, Gerald, and Brenda. One of Wayne’s most extraordinary acts of kindness was the gift of his Kidney to his youngest sister, Brenda, in 1972. He is survived by his sisters, Sandra and Norma of Brevard. Wayne was a native of Transylvania County, where he raised his family, and was a joy to all.

Wayne dedicated his life to making a positive impact on those around him. As a devoted husband of 64 years to his wife, Sandy, and a loving father to their five children, Tami Gilliam (Gary), Robin Horton(Mark), Dean Fanning (Charlene, Melissa Fanning (Jason), and Steven Fanning (Darlene). He is also survived by 64 direct descendants, including sixteen

Grandchildren and 10 of their spouses, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 of their spouses, and two great-great-grandchildren with one on the way. He exemplified unconditional love, support, and devotion. Wayne was a pillar of strength and wisdom for his family, always ready to offer guidance.

Wayne retired from Ecusta after 40 years of service in 1999. Wayne and Sandy went on for many years to assist missionaries worldwide through Anchor Baptist Church.

Wayne will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and unwavering faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and service to the Lord that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, church, and all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Anchor Baptist Church, with visitation to start at 12:30 PM and service to follow at 2:00 PM, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and share stories of his remarkable life. A graveside service will follow at Blue Ridge Garden of Memory. Though he may no longer walk beside us, Wayne's spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he created. He is now with his Lord, whom he faithfully served, walking on the streets of gold, knowing that he made the world a better place.
