George Elbert Miller Obituary

George Elbert Miller, 73, was born on December 7, 1950, in Charleston, WV, and passed unexpectedly at home on March 18, 2024. As the youngest of nine siblings, he grew up in Horse Creek, WV, and lived most of his life there until he moved to Fayetteville, WV after he retired as a coal miner in 2015.

George was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of the UMWA.

To know George was to know a man who loved Jesus and his family. He had a big personality that laughed and loved to share with others about God. He taught those around him about integrity through the life he lived. He devoted himself to loving Jesus and serving others. He used all his gifts to help others through being a teacher and deacon at church and handyman projects. He was a gifted musician who loved to play his guitar and worship. He was a member of Horse Creek Freewill Baptist Church for many years; he also attended Delbert Freewill Baptist Church. When he moved to Fayetteville, he attended Salem Road Freewill Baptist Church.

George loved his family well and was so proud of them. He left an honoring legacy that lives in his family. He loved Jesus and he is home with him. He would want everyone to have hope and know that we will see him again.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert J. Miller and Opal C. (Jarrell) Miller; and brothers, Albert Jr., Norman (Bill), Tom, and James (Jim) Miller.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Rosemary (Turner) Miller; his daughter, Pamela Swanson, and son-in-law Todd Swanson; his son, Travis Miller, and daughter-in-law Kelee Miller; six grandchildren, Seth Miller, Elijah Miller, Ethan Miller, Ian Swanson, Eliot Swanson, and Hope Swanson; sisters, Betty Aliff (Joe) and Shirley Wall; two brothers, Eugene Miller and Jackie Miller; and in-laws, Benny and Debbie Turner.

Special thanks to the church family at Salem Road Freewill Baptist for all your love and support.

Services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, March 22, 2024, at High Lawn Funeral Home in Oak Hill, WV, with Pastor Lynn Halstead officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.
