<p>John Robert Carty, age 88, of Mount Laurel, NJ passed away peacefully in his home, with his beloved wife, Catharine, by his side, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.<br></p><p>John was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA to the late John and Anna (nee Gamm) Carty and has been a resident of Mount Laurel for 50 years.<br></p><p>John received his BA from Lycoming College, his Master of Divinity from Drew University, and his MA in Gerontology from North Texas State University.<br></p><p>John was ordained into the ministry in 1962, and began his pastoral career in West Long Branch, NJ. For many years he worked as a Nursing Home Administrator at several South Jersey nursing homes affiliated with the Methodist Homes of NJ, as well as the Lutheran Home of Moorestown.<br></p><p>In his free time, John enjoyed working on his elaborate model train platforms and he cherished time with his family and lavished them with encouragement and praise. He was an avid fan of whatever his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were involved in and was a robust cheerleader of all of them. John was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who cared deeply about his family. His presence and guidance will be deeply missed.<br></p><p>John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Catharine Carty (nee Brooks), and their children, Beverly Donker (John), John B. Carty (Alicia), Douglas Carty (Jackie), Mark Carty (Karen), and Valerie Carty. Also survived by his nine beloved grandchildren, Mark Donker (Alexandra), Erin Carty (Nate), Daniel Donker (Ashlyn), Emily Lindeman (Preston), Meredith Blizard (Justin), Matt Carty (Kellie), Ryan Carty (Tessa), Michael Carty and Kendall Carty, as well as sixteen great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his great-granddaughter, Presley Jane Lindeman, who he just met for the first time.<br></p><p>Friends and relatives are welcome to the visitation on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 12:00PM, and to his celebration of life immediately following at 1:00PM. Both will be held at the First Methodist Church, 446 E Camden Ave, Moorestown, NJ 08057.<br></p><p>Services will also be live streamed on the <a href="https://youtube.com/@fmcmoorestown446?si=cAtSvZqMQF2tgcQE" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">First Methodist Church's YouTube Channel.</a><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at <a href="http://www.mda.org" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">www.mda.org</a><br></p><p>&nbsp;</p>
