Farmington – William A. “Bill” Mitchell, 95, a resident of Livermore Falls, passed away Monday, March 18th at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. He was born February 13, 1929, in Attleboro, MA., the son of William A. Mitchell, Sr. and Alice (Voter) Mitchell. Bill was a 1948 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. On July 16, 1954, at the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls, he married Betty A. Coates of Livermore Falls. Bill worked as a chief engineer for International Paper Company at the Otis and Androscoggin Mills in Jay, retiring in 1991. Bill also served on the Board of Directors for the Livermore Falls Water District and the Livermore Falls Cemetery Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls, International Paper Quarter Century Club, he was a Master Mason of the Oriental Star Lodge, and the Nordic Ski Association. Bill also played a key role in the organization and planning of moving Spruce Mountain Ski Slope. A film was later made called “The Town That Moved A Mountain”. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Mitchell, his son, William A. Mitchell III both of Livermore Falls, his daughters, Barbara Martin and companion Randal Seaton of Bryant Pond, and Brenda Van Decker and husband Jeffery of Otisfield, 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Jacqueline Luciano and Ann Kendall. Mitchell, Jr. - William A. “Bill”, 95 of Livermore Falls, Maine passed away March 18, 2024, in Farmington, Maine. At his request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment at a later date at Pleasant View Cemetery, 51 Fayette Road, Livermore Falls, Maine. Arrangements by FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine.
