Linda E. Mackes Obituary

Linda E. Mackes, 73, of Kunkletown, passed away Tuesday, March 19, at Brookmont Health Care Center, Effort.


She was the loving wife of the late James W. "Jim" Mackes Jr. They celebrated 46 wonderful years of marriage together before his passing in 2023.


Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Norwood R. Kern and the late Magdalene (Schmidt) Kern.


Linda was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert. She was a devoted nurse for most of her career. She loved the experience of going out to eat with friends and family, enjoying the food and entertainment. She loved Broadway shows, musicals, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and simply being on the go enjoying life. Linda was an avid cook and baker and loved cooking family traditional meals for special occasions. She adored her grandchildren and her beloved dogs, Chloe and Lilykins. Most of all, she was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.


She is survived by a son, James W. Mackes III and his significant other Kate Landers of Tampa, FL; two daughters, Candace McMaster and her husband Ron of Easton, Jillian Mackes-Sheckler and her significant other Jason Green of Palmerton; three grandchildren, Allyson McMaster, John McMaster, Nevella Sheckler; and her beloved dogs, Chloe, Lilykins, and grand pup Nittany. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Kern.


A visitation will be held on Friday, March 29 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Robert Simon officiating. Interment of the ashes will follow in Trachsville Cemetery.
