(Thompson) Chatham, 88, of Oil City are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Milo Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Johnston and Taco Sanchez officiating. Interment will follow at the Chatham Family Cemetery in Oil City. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.</p><p><br></p><p>Charlene was born on July 24, 1935 at the Provence Community to the late Mr. Dick Thompson and Mrs. Velma (Sosbee) Thompson. She went to her heavenly home on Wed. Morning March 20, 2024 at Ardmore.</p><p><br></p><p>Charlene was raised at Lone Grove with her mother, passing when Charlene was only seven years old. She was the oldest child of four and thereafter became a nurturing mother to her siblings. She attended school at Lone Grove and married Mr. John L. Chatham on August 13, 1951. They made their home in Oil City where Charlene devoted her life to being the best homemaker to her family and community volunteer anyone could ever ask for.</p><p><br></p><p>Charlene often loved gardening throughout the years canning all kinds of produce she raised. She was always cooking for everyone and loved spending time and being very involved with her grandchildren. She was known to give daily bible lessons to those who visited her and loved supporting her church by teaching Sunday school at the Oil City Union Baptist Church for many years and lastly at Milo Baptist. Charlene was a very Godly woman, who let her life represent her faith in Christ. She loved and adored all of her children, grandchildren and family immensely and was a member of the Milo Baptist Church.</p><p><br></p><p>Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, John Logan Chatham-Jan. 5, 2007; sons, Charles Wayne and Donnie Chatham; Son in law, Randy Stephenson; brother, Dan “Sonny” and David Thompson and grandson in law, Brent Shepard.</p><p><br></p><p>Survivors include her daughters, Janet Chatham and Karan Godwin and husband Chris , both of Ardmore; daughter in law, Vickie Chatham of Oil City; sister in law, Donna Thompson of Lubbock, TX; grandchildren, Sean Chatham and wife Laura, Zack Chatham and wife DeeAnn, Jason Chatham and wife Heather, Misty McKinnon and husband Todd, Lindsay Stephenson, Lacey Morrow and husband Rick, Lesley Wright and husband Keith, Lauran Shepard, Lexus Stephenson, Lauren Kilcrease and husband Dakota, Ashley McIntosh and husband Isaiah; 18 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren; numerous other nieces, nephews, other family, church family and friends.</p><p>Casket bearers are Zack Chatham, Sean Chatham, Jason Chatham, Chris Godwin, Jimmy Rex Chatham and Buck Chatham.</p><p><br></p><p>Honorary bearers are Duane “Danny” Thompson, Roger Thompson, Troy Thompson, Jimmy Leon Chatham, Billy Ray Chatham and Mike Puckett.</p><p><br></p><p>Family visitation 6 to 8 pm Friday evening at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.</p><p><br></p><p>Condolences may be sent online at www.alexandergrayfh.com.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><iframe height="330" width="512" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" src="https://www.tributeslides.com/videos/embedded_video/L8DS7LBLRBM35CNC" class="ts_player"></iframe></p>
