<p>Psalm 34:18 " The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." </p><p><br></p><p>Rakeya Denise Stevenson, 35, was born in Iredell County on Tuesday, April 26, 1988, to the late Raleigh Arnold "Rock" Stevenson, Jr and Charlotte Denise Cannady. She departed this life on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem. </p><p><br></p><p>Rakeya graduated from Henderson High School in Rowan County. She was employed at Jurney’s Assisted Living of Statesville as a CNA, which she loved. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Baptist Church. Rakeya had a very no filter personality. She was also very stubborn but had a very good heart. She loved working with the elderly community and was passionate about it. She was hard working, had a great sense of humor, and was Daddy’s girl. She leaves behind numerous loved ones and friends. She will be deeply missed. If you knew Rakeya, her favorite quote was “you better lean your neck back” or acting like she’s sleeping just out of nowhere-when put on the spot. </p><p><br></p><p>In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Raleigh Arnold Stevenson, Sr. and Marie Turner Stevenson, maternal grandparents, Mac Lacey Cannady and Mary Alberta Darty Nixon; great grandparents, William and Sylvia Stevenson, Walter and Veatrice Woods, Forest and Jeanette Turner; uncle, John "Flick" Hardy; aunt, Phyllis Turner; and her brother, Romeo Blunt. </p><p><br></p><p>She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, three brothers, Christopher Cannady, Kaleb Parsons, and Deontaye Fergerson; two sisters, Crystal Grady, and Markey Holland, both of Statesville; god sister, Sasha Howell; the love of her life, Travis Morrison; aunts and uncles, Randolph Stevenson, William Stevenson and Robert Stevenson, Wanda Stevenson Hardy of Statesville and Sharon S. (Calvin) Easter of Charlotte, Diane (Archie) Fletcher of Statesville; Beatrice (Melton) Hardee, Kenneth Darty of Statesville, Bernardeane Moton, Rebecca Lynn White, Laura Stevenson, and Bonnie Cannady; nieces, Rakia Grady, De’Aisa Vinson, A’nylia Fergerson, A’mariya Holland; cousins, Timothy Turner, David Moton, Jr., Phillip Stevenson, Matthew Moton, Calvin Easter, Jr., Keyonte Easter, Tongla Turner, Dimishi Young, Donya Hector, Macherra Patterson, Angel Hardy, Candice Shuford, Anitra Gregory, Brooke Gregory, Kamma Grant, Ah'laia White and Michael Hardee, Jordan Darty, Kara Fletcher Jones, Latisha Hardee, and Kaleigh Darty; special cousins, Tazelle Peet, and Quan Turner; great aunts and uncles, Barbara Alexander, Carol Morrison, Letha (Bobby) Morrison, Brenda Bennett, Billy Stevenson, Louise Randall,, Mildred Allison, Linda Maddox, Brenda Clinding, Virginia Harris and Frances Turner; and a host of other relatives, co-workers and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>Celebration of Life services will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary. Reverend Dr. Monica D. Redmond will be officiating the service.
