Dennis W. Dinsmore Obituary

It is with a sad heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Dennis W. Dinsmore on Saturday, March 16, 2024. He was born May 30, 1955 in Camden, Maine. Dennis joined the Navy in June of 1972 serving off the coast of Vietnam. He spent six years serving his country in the Navy and Naval Reserves until June 1978. During his service, Den earned the National Defense Service Medal. After his Naval service, Den then continued serving his country in the National Guard.

Dennis held many jobs including firefighter in Monmouth, ME, various auto repair shops in the area and finished his career working at Bath Iron Works for 30 years. Dennis married Debbie Butterfield in Boothbay Harbor, ME on September 23, 2000. The ceremony was a memorable one taking place on a lobster boat out in the ocean with all the guests on additional boats witnessing the nuptuals.

One of Dennis's early passions was riding his motorcycle and joining his cycle friends on many fundraising cycle runs throughout Maine. Dennis also very much enjoyed his monthly breakfasts with his uncles and friends at Moody's Diner in Waldoboro, ME. His main passion, however, was restoring old cars. Whoever had a restoration project in the works, Den and his friends would all pitch in to help work on it. There was always an old car/truck project in progress in his garage and anyone stopping by Dennis and Debbie's house could find Den working on his current restoration project with his good friend Cliffie. Dennis was very proud to be a member of the Classic Chevy Club.

Dennis is predeceased by his mother Laura Waldron, stepfather Carl Dinsmore, sister Reita Nickerson, and father Elwood Light, Sr. Dennis is survived by his loving and caring wife and soul mate Deborah Butterfield, his loving Wisconsin Butterfield family brothers-in-law, sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his loving Maine family the Dinsmores and Lights including many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many close friends. Dennis will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

We are so blessed to have had Dennis in our lives. His stories of years past and his sense of humor would brighten everyone's day. Debbie would like to thank all the friends and familiy who have been there supporting her throught this unexpected loss of Dennis.

Per Dennis’s wishes, there will be a private family burial service at a later date at the family cemetery in Washington. A memorial gathering will take place in Boothbay Harbor in the near future.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay.
