Mary Elizabeth Sweat

Mary Elizabeth (Libba) Baggett Sweat, born July 5, 1940 in Palatka, FL, died March 17, 2024 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka. Libba was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hastings where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a great cook, seamstress and loved working in her yard.

Libba was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life Donald (Pops) Louis Sweat, a daughter, Patti Ann Sweat, a son, Donald Lee Sweat, her parents, John Aaron Baggett and Jewel Basher Baggett Smith, stepfather, Tommy Lee Smith Sr., a brother Joseph Larry Baggett, and a sister, Carol Anett Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter in law, Amanda Sweat, sisters, Kathleen Carter, Bonnie Byrnes (Danny), brothers, Calvin Baggett Sr. (Bessie), Michael Baggett, Tommy Smith Jr. (Karen), Earl Smith (Betty), Donnie Smith (Dianne), special granddaughters, Rebecca Summers (Matt), Amanda Austin (Juan), Ronna Matthews (Reed), Jennifer Humphries (Stephen) , Melissa Strickland (Stephen), Ally McNeil (Brett), grandsons, Will Byrnes, Ryan McQuaig, Trevor Hanna (Cori), Cody Hanna (Desiree) Aaron Baggett (Brittany), great granddaughters Ashley Summers, Ruby and Pearl Austin, great grandsons, Thomas Summers, Myles and Callen Matthews. Libba considered everyone’s child as her own.

Services will be held Saturday March 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Rev. Tommy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill East Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. Flowers are greatly appreciated, or donations can be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.

The family will gather after services at the home of Tommy and Karen.
