James E. "Mickey" Bumpus, Sr.

James E. "Mickey" Bumpus, Sr., age 85, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024, at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. He was a native of Lawrence County, TN, retired from Ford Motor Company, a UAW retiree, and a member of West Gaines Church of Christ.  He found joy in helping and serving the people of his community. 

He was preceded in death by his father, John Wiley Bumpas; his mother, Ostella Marie Wilkerson Sowell; two sons, Wayne Embry Bumpus and James E. "Butch" Bumpus, Jr.; step-father, Delmar Brock Sowell; two sisters and five brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Curley V. Harlan Bumpus of Lawrenceburg, TN; one daughter, Cynthia Denise Bumpus Thomas (Percy) of Panama City, FL; one sister, Mildred Parnell Harlan of Huntsville, AL; three grandchildren, Candace A. Thomas of Panama City, FL, Patrice O. Thomas of Panama City, FL, and Wayne M.C. Thomas of Panama City, FL; three great-grandchildren, Jasmine Orum, Jayden Thomas, and James Caleb Thomas; several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Friday, March 22, 2024, at Neal Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 12:00 PM Friday, March 22, 2024, with Michael Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN.  The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
