Richard Wayne Maynord, Sr. Obituary

Richard Wayne Maynord, Sr. of Oklahoma City, formerly of Midwest City passed away on March 17, 2024, 4 days after turning 91.

He was born March 13, 1933, in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, to Wayne and Myna Maynord and spent most of his childhood in Midwest City, where his parents as well as several of his uncles and their families settled.

Richard was an only child and grew up a sports enthusiast and played baseball and basketball throughout his school years. In April of 1953, he joined the Air Force and then in August of 1953 married his high school sweetheart, Jennie Lee Hiel. Richard was an Airborne Radar Technician in the military and after his service, began a long career with the US Government, working briefly at Tinker AFB before spending many years as an electronics engineer for the FAA, teaching in the academy about the computer.

Richard and Jennie lived a few years in Midwest City then moved to Del City where they lived until they built their dream home in southeast Oklahoma City in 1981. They loved to travel with friends and family, which were numerous. Richard loved golf, OU football and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Richard was very smart, had a dry yet keen sense of humor, and was known for his cool composure and kind and gentle nature. His family and friends were most important to him, and he spent his life cultivating those relationships, traveling and going to the lake with them. He will be missed dearly but lived a full and exciting life.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Myna Maynord and father Wayne Maynord and his wife of almost 70 years, Jennie Lee Maynord.

Richard is survived by his two sons, Rick and wife Michelle, Kirk and wife Mary, grandchildren, Derrick and wife Janelle, Erica Menchaca and husband Josh, Dustin, Ryan, Sarah, Jason and Nikki and great grandchildren, Lelu, Elora and Isaac. Two sisters-in-law, Lynda Hixon and Pam Aldridge and their families. His friends were also considered family to him, and all will miss him dearly.

Services will be held at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City, on Monday, March 25th at 2:00 PM with interment at Arlington Memory Gardens following. Public visitation will begin at Barnes Friederich funeral home on Saturday, March 23rd with family being there on Sunday from 4-6 pm.
