Obituary

STEPHAN: Norman

May 15,1940 – March 17,2024

It is with heavy hearts and tear filled eyes that we announce the death of a special man who was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and great-grandfather. We were blessed to have had him in our lives for as long as we did and will cherish all of the fond memories. His infectious smile, quiet ways and helping hands will always be remembered.

Norm passed away peacefully at the Humboldt District Health Complex on March 17,2024 at the age of 83. Norm was born on the family farm near Lanigan on May 15,1940 to Bertha (nee Rockel) and Robert Stephan.

Norm spent his entire life in the Lanigan area. In 1948, he and his parents moved from the farm to live in town. After graduating high school, Norm began farming with his Dad and brothers.

After marrying Bev in 1963, they built their home on the family farm and lived there where he continued to farm (grain and cattle) and raise their two daughters. They remained on the farm until 2013 when they moved to The Carlton in Lanigan.

In his early years, Norm was an avid hockey and baseball player. He and Bev also curled and introduced that sport to their girls and curled as a family. Norm also served as the “ice-maker” at the Lanigan Curling Rink for many years. He was very active in the community, serving on various committees and boards during his life-time.

Many happy memories were made over the years, travelling, camping, and playing cards with family and great friends. Gardening was also a pastime that he quite enjoyed, even after leaving the farm. On a sunny summer day, Norm could usually be found working in his garden at The Carlton, riding his lawn tractor cutting the grass or tending to his lovely rose bush in front of the Carlton. His other interests also included crossword puzzles and building very elaborate wooden models.

Norm will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, BEV Stephan (nee Townley-McKay), their two children, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren: LORI Stephan and children Euwen and Jennavieve; MARCI (Daryl) Quesnel and family Alyse (Hayden) Francis and children Oaklyn and Lincoln; Daman (Dayleigh Pegg) Quesnel and son Kai; In-laws Fred (Faye) Townley-McKay, Deb Teneycke, and Joyce Stephan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Norm was predeceased by his parents Robert and Bertha Stephan; brothers Martin, Lawrence and Paul (in childhood); and In-laws Joe and Alice Townley-McKay, Doreen Stephan, and Don Teneycke.

A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lanigan, SK on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor George Hind officiating. Private Family Interment in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Lanigan, SK. For those so wishing memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or S.T.A.R.S. would be appreciated.
